Sixty-Two Years of Service to the Community

The Beginning - A Public Meeting

A public meeting was called on 9th October, 1962, with a view to forming the Lions Club of Ingleburn, which would be sponsored by the Lions Club of Campbelltown.

Keynote speakers at this meeting were Past District Governor Roy Gerathy – Randwick Club and Lions members Roy Scott and Fred Meyer from Liverpool Lions Club. It was decided to go ahead with the proposal to form the Ingleburn Lions Club and the inaugural meeting was set down for 23″d October, 1962, at the Ingleburn Hotel commencing at 6.30 pm. The public meeting closed at 9.30 pm.

Inaugural Meeting (23 October 1962)

Lion Dick Miller of Campbelltown presided at the meeting, assisted by Lion Jim McLardie and Lion Roy Scott, at the Ingleburn Hotel.

Following dinner, twenty eight Lions members and visiting members of the community took part in the formal proceedings Lion Jim McLardie, Australian Secretary and Regional Manager, took the chair

  • The Lions Club of Ingleburn was formed.
  • The joining fee was set at 4 Pound 10 Shillings ($8.80) and yearly subscription 8 Pound 8 Shillings ($17.60)
  • That the Ingleburn Lions Club meet at the Ingleburn Hotel on the first and third Tuesday.
  • Ken Rafferty was elected President.
  • Stan Welsh was elected Secretary.
  • The following members were inducted by Jim McLardie: K. Rafferty, J. Drewitt, R. King, N. Fairweather, J. Anderson, J. Goodard, C. Newton, S. Noyes, 0. Jenkins, R. Bentley, M. Thorman. Transfers from Campbelltown: B. Drewitt, G. Drewitt, M. Marms, S. Welsh.

Presentation of Charter (23 March 1963)

The Ingleburn Lions Club received its Charter at a banquet dinner held in the Del Monte, Liverpool, on 23.3.63.

The Club Charter was presented to Charter President Ken Rafferty by the late Ken Bunn OBE who was District Governor of the day. Twenty three charter members were in attendance.
